August promos: Three blends for focus

Here is my take on these three blends.

I have to say, of the three blends in this promo Thinker is probably my favourite.

It is a brilliant mix of Rosemary for memory support, Peppermint for clear and focused energy, Clementine for mood, and Vetiver for anxiety management, diluted in fractionated coconut oil. Of course I’m being overly simplistic about what each of these single oils can do, but this is how I see them working synergistically in this blend.

This is my go-to blend for practicing. It smells amazing and makes me want to get down to work. If you check out the link to the dōTERRA blog about Thinker they even mention using it for piano practice. See? I don’t make this stuff up.

Another great plus to this blend is it is from the kid’s line, so it is optimized for use by kids aged 3-10 years old. If you have kiddos around who might need some focus support (back to school, anyone?) you can feel confident in letting your young ‘un grab this one and use it how they feel compelled to. The dilution ratio is optimized for kids in this range.

The kids’ oils work well on adults too, we just may want to apply a little more often.

I always say that Motivate smells like a chocolate orange and a chocolate mint had a baby. It smells delicious. Again, don’t be fooled by the yummy smell, this one is a great one for getting things done.

Motivate is also available in an undiluted oil for use in the diffuser, but this month’s promo has the diluted “touch” roller version to take with you.

Its composition is somewhat similar to that of Thinker. Like the kid’s roller it also contains Peppermint, Clementine, and Rosemary, plus fractionated coconut oil as a carrier oil.

Instead of Vetiver as found in Thinker, Melissa is used here for anxiety. This is a crucial distinction if you’re thinking of using one of these blends for stage. Vetiver is so good at managing anxious feelings that I suspect it might make you too calm on stage. I have had this experience with other oils too (Balance and Adaptiv, specifically) and discovered that being too calm on stage is not always what we want. You’ll have to see what works best for you.

Because of this difference of Melissa vs. Vetiver, in my humble opinion Motivate is a much better choice for stage if you still want to keep some of your edge.

There are some other goodies in this blend too: Coriander, Basil, Yuzu, Vanilla Bean absolute. Check out the dōTERRA blog about Motivate for more info.

InTune is really different from the other two focus blends. The other two blends basically have: Peppermint, Rosemary, Clementine, and something for anxiety.

InTune has a very different composition. Here is the ingredient list:

So no Peppermint, no Rosemary. Lime is the one citrus, and it’s heavy on the flowers and woods.

Frankincense in this blend is the one that manages the performance anxiety. I will never go onstage without Frank, he’s definitely the one for me to manage the stage jitters.

I learned recently that people with high blood pressure may want to avoid Rosemary and use more Ylang Ylang, so if that’s you, this might be the blend for you.

There are so many first-hand accounts of this blend being stellar for kids with really difficult focus issues. This lovely, flowery blend is really potent, so a little goes a long way.

Another important difference with InTune vs. the other two blends in this list is InTune is not diluted, it’s just a mix of essential oils. You can definitely grab an empty roller bottle and make your own diluted version of InTune. In a 10ml roller bottle adults can use 20 drops of InTune and top with a carrier, and for kids try 10 drops of InTune.

No roller bottle? No problem. Apply a carrier oil to the skin first, then roll InTune on top. One little swipe will do it. Or use it full strength, that works too.

If you find the aroma a bit intense you can apply to the bottoms of the feet.
